What is the core technical principle behind Slice 10?

Slice 10 uses a piezoelectric ceramic transducer to convert electrical energy into 40kHz high-frequency mechanical vibration. The blade moves at microscopic amplitude and high speed, which helps reduce cutting resistance compared with a traditional manual blade.

Instead of relying mainly on pushing force, ultrasonic vibration helps the blade pass through suitable materials more smoothly and with less effort.

Why is SonicMax Slice 10 called “The Next-Gen Wireless Ultrasonic Cutter”?

Slice 10 was designed around the key limitations commonly seen in cordless ultrasonic cutters: heat buildup, short working time, and unstable output during longer sessions. It combines a high-efficiency ultrasonic system, active cooling, a replaceable battery platform, and smarter operating controls.

1. High-efficiency transducer: Slice 10 targets Q > 500, compared with typical industry-standard designs around Q = 150–250. A higher Q value means more input energy is converted into useful ultrasonic motion and less is wasted as heat.

2. Adaptive output control: The system reads material feedback during cutting and adjusts output power to help maintain smoother, more stable cuts.

3. Active cooling and replaceable power: A built-in cooling fan and a replaceable 5000mAh 21700 battery help support longer creative sessions without waiting for a full recharge.

How does Smart Material Auto-Detection work?

Slice 10 reads material feedback in real time while cutting. When resistance changes, the control system adjusts output power to help keep the cut smooth and stable.

This is especially useful when moving between different materials or densities, such as PLA supports, resin parts, EVA foam, leather, or plastic sheet. The OLED display shows real-time power status so users can see the output change during operation.

Is the battery replaceable? What battery does Slice 10 use?

Yes. Slice 10 uses a replaceable 5000mAh 21700 lithium-ion battery system. Users can swap in a fresh battery to continue working instead of waiting for the tool to fully recharge.

For best performance and safety, we recommend using official SonicMax batteries or compatible high-drain 21700 cells that meet the product’s power requirements. Not every 21700 cell is suitable for high-output ultrasonic cutting.

· Battery type: Replaceable 21700 lithium-ion cell

· Capacity: 5000mAh

· Charging: USB-C fast charging support

· Best use: Keep an extra battery ready for longer sessions or back-to-back projects

What is the battery runtime? What factors affect it?

In internal maximum-pressure stress testing with continuous high-load cutting, Slice 10 delivered approximately 70 minutes of cutting time on a single 5000mAh battery without thermal shutdown. This result is a heavy-duty stress-test reference, not a fixed runtime guarantee for every material or use case.

For typical maker workflows — such as intermittent cutting, 3D print support removal, model cleanup, foam trimming, leather work, and general craft use — users can generally expect around 2–4 hours of mixed-use runtime per battery, depending on material, cutting pressure, power setting, fan activity, ambient temperature, battery condition, and user workflow.

Actual runtime may be shorter during continuous high-load cutting and longer during lighter intermittent use.

· Harder or denser materials consume more power.

· Higher power outputs reduce runtime.

· Continuous cutting generates more heat and uses more power than intermittent use.

· Battery age and ambient temperature can affect performance.

How does Lift-to-Activate Auto Sensing work?

Slice 10 uses built-in motion and orientation sensing to simplify everyday operation. When the tool is lifted from a flat surface, it enters a ready state. When it is placed back flat on the desk, it powers down after the designated logic is triggered.

This helps reduce unnecessary blade vibration, battery drain, and wear when the tool is not in active use. It is not a grip-sensing system; it is based on lift and placement behavior.

What materials can Slice 10 cut? What materials should be avoided?

Slice 10 is designed for maker, craft, model-building, and 3D-printing post-processing workflows. It performs best on suitable soft-to-medium materials where ultrasonic cutting can reduce drag and improve control.

Very low-melting plastics may show slight melting at high power. For best results, test on a small area first and adjust the power output based on material response.

Slice 10 is not recommended for metal, glass, ceramic, carbon fiber sheets, thick epoxy boards, very hard composite materials, or composite materials with metal layers. Oversized or overly thick materials beyond the tool’s intended scope should also be avoided.

Recommended materials include 3D printed parts such as PLA, PETG, and ABS support removal and model finishing, resin model cleanup, EVA foam and foam board, KT board and model board, leather, soft PVC, plastic sheet, silicone, and other suitable soft-to-medium materials. Moderate-thickness acrylic sheet may also be suitable depending on the use case, material thickness, and cutting technique.

Can I use Slice 10 while charging?

Yes. Slice 10 supports pass-through charging, allowing users to continue working while the tool is connected to USB-C power. This is useful when the battery is low and a replacement battery is not immediately available.

For the best long-session experience, we still recommend using a fully charged battery or swapping to a fresh battery. During extended high-intensity cutting, short breaks may help maintain stable thermal performance.

What information does the OLED display show?

The OLED display provides real-time visibility of key operating status, helping users understand what the tool is doing during cutting.

· Battery level

· Current output power

· Operating status, such as standby, running, or protection mode

· Cooling fan status

Low-battery or overheat alerts when applicable

What is the built-in LED light used for?

Slice 10 includes built-in LED cut-line illumination to improve visibility around the blade area. This is especially useful when working on detailed cuts, dark materials, recessed areas, or small 3D-printed parts.

How often should the blade be replaced?

Blade life depends on material hardness, cutting pressure, usage intensity, and operating habits. Softer materials generally wear blades more slowly, while harder or abrasive materials shorten blade life.

Replace the blade when cutting quality drops or when the blade shows visible damage.

· Cutting resistance increases noticeably.

· Edges become rough, torn, or burred.

· The blade tip becomes dull or difficult to control.

· The blade edge shows chipping, notching, or visible wear.

· Material begins to drag instead of cutting cleanly.

Is Slice 10 waterproof?

No. Slice 10 is not waterproof and should not be used in rain, wet environments, or areas with liquid splashes. Avoid water entering the cooling fan, OLED display, USB-C port, blade connection area, or internal electronics.

If the tool gets wet, power it off immediately, dry it thoroughly, and allow it to fully dry before use.

Does Slice 10 have safety protection features?

Yes. Slice 10 includes multiple protection features designed to support safer operation and protect the tool during abnormal conditions.

· Overheat protection: The system can reduce output or enter protection mode when internal temperature becomes too high.

· Low-battery alert: The OLED display alerts users when battery level is low.

· Idle auto shut-down: The tool can shut down after a period of inactivity to reduce power drain and unintended operation.

· Lift-to-Activate logic: The tool is designed to enter ready mode when lifted and power down when placed flat.

What is the warranty policy?

Slice 10 comes with a 1-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. During the warranty period, SonicMax will provide repair or replacement support for eligible non-user-caused issues.

· Covered: Manufacturing or material defects under normal use.

· Not covered: Damage caused by drops, water ingress, misuse, unauthorized disassembly, modification, or self-repair.

· Wear items: Blades and normal battery capacity degradation are not covered as defects.

· Support: Kickstarter backers will receive priority after-sales support.

Are specifications final?
